Buffalo Reproduction

American buffaloes are polygamous. Females reach sexual maturity after 2-3 years, while males reach sexual maturity after 6 years. American buffaloes mate in August and September, and the gestation period is 285 days. A single calf is born. Calves grow and develop rapidly, reaching 450 pounds by their first birthday.
